Fascinated by the diversity of aromatic expression of the Pinot Noir vine in the Champagne region, Louis Roederer decides to prepare his Vintage Brut on the structure and potency of Pinot Noir grapes from the Montagne de Reims region where the vines, exposed in the North/Northeast direction, mature more slowly, giving rise to wines that are sometimes rough and closed at the beginning of ageing, but whose personality is significantly enhanced and intensified during aging in wooden vats and over time. In 1850, Roederer decides to buy more than 15 ha in the grand cru of Verzenay in order to better control the production of this harvest's grapes.
