Great old school wines! It’s Frank John’s motto. The charismatic winemaker worked for many years as a consultant across Europe before acquiring the Hirschhorner Hof in the Palatinate in 2002. His area of expertise and his passion are biodynamic cultivation and working with traditional aging methods. The range is very simplified, with just one Riesling, one Riesling sparkling wine and one Pinot Noir. The wines combine elegance, structure and balance and thus perfectly reflect the winemaker Frank John. So it’s not surprising that the Eichelmann wine guide gave Frank John a maximum rating of 4 out of 5 stars.
This Riesling sparkling wine is aged in barrels before being aged for 32 months. The result is an elegant and purist sparkling wine, light herbal spices and floral notes on the nose, yellow apple and peach, light touch of yeast and fine spices. Extremely fine perlage and lively acidity on the palate, very low residual sugar and correspondingly robust, light brioche notes, more herbal spices, some oxidized pear skin with a little grapefruit zest, creamy and firm on the finish. A German Riesling sparkling wine that plays at the level of champagne.
You can take a chance and try this Sekt with Asian food, strong cheeses, venison.
