Founded in 1946 by grandfather Mário Barbeito de Vasconcelos, the company Vinhos Barbeito has always been managed by family members.
At the time of its foundation, there were more than 30 companies producing and exporting Madeira wine. Step by step, grandfather Mário gained clients in many countries, always trying to build solid and close relationships with them. Some of the current customers and suppliers are still from their time.
In 1985, the mother Manuela de Vasconcelos took her place in the management of the company, as she had already worked at Vinhos Barbeito since 1976, thus continuing the legacy.
In 2001 was produced the first 20 years old Malvasia. This is eighth blend since then but, I always face a great challenge when the time comes to produce another lot as it requires much reflection. The ending of some of these old wines represent the birth of others which is the case of this 20 year old Malvasia lot 14050, aged in French old oak casks by Canteiro method. This lush wine has a moderate impact on the nose followed by an explosion of elegant flavours where the long acidity at the end of the mouth really stands out. 1.061 units were bottled, all individually numbered.
