Symington Family Estates has bottled three 2020 Vintage Ports. Among the wines now announced are two special editions that mark two milestones that year. One of them is the Graham’s bicentennial.
The 2020 Vintage Ports were selected by Charles Symington, the family business’s principal winemaker, who concluded, after an assessment of the most promising wines from the best properties, that the Cima Corgo sub-region had given rise to the most remarkable wines.
2020 had the smallest harvest of the 21st century – with production at Symington’s properties in the Alto Douro state 21 percent below the average of the last decade – but, despite the small amount, it generated concentrated, structured and deep red wines. As such, the family exceptionally decided to bottling and limited release of Graham’s Porto Vintage 2020 – Bicentennial Edition.
The bicentennial edition of Graham’s Porto Vintage 2020 comes from a single batch consisting of joint fermentations of Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca; de Sousão with Touriga Nacional (from the prized stone walls “Stone Terraces” at Quinta dos Malvedos); of old vines and Alicante Bouschet. Opulent, intense and fresh, it has the classic character of Graham’s, as well as a unique aromatic complexity and layers of attractive fruit. This year, only 3,000 bottles will be made available en primeur.
