The Blandy family is distinguished by being the only family, of all the original founders of the Madeira wine trade, that still owns and manages its own original wine company. Over the course of its long history on the island, the family has played a leading role in the development of Madeira wine. Its members continue to live in Madeira, thus maintaining a tradition that dates back to 1811 – Two centuries of production of a wine of excellence.
Aged for 15 years in American oak barrels according to the traditional “Canteiro” process. This includes a gentle heating of the wine in the attic of warehouses in Funchal. Over the years, the wine is transferred from the upper floors to the intermediate floors, and eventually to the floor at ground level where it is cooler. After this “gradual stuffing” the wine is filtered and clarified before bottling.
It is an excellent accompaniment to desserts, especially fruit, cakes, chocolate and cheeses. It was bottled ready for drinking and will keep well for several months after opening.
