Quinta dos Canais takes its name from the system of stone canals built to carry water from the waterfall on the western edge of the property to the house and the olive groves and orange trees. From the end of the 19th century, the estate’s owners began supplying Cockburn’s grapes that would become an essential component of the company’s legendary Vintage Ports. Cockburn’s acquired the property in 1989.
In 2006 Quinta dos Canals became the second largest property of Symington Family Estates (after Quinta do Vesuvio).
