Anselmo Mendes TANKS with this Alvarinho from Monção e Melgaço intends to experiment, surpass and create wines of excellence!
Experimenting, reinventing, overcoming, taking on the challenge of creating wines of excellence, which are born from a long and deep connection to the land and defy conventions and the senses. This is where Anselmo Mendes takes us.
Anselmo Mendes, recognized not only for the excellence of the wines he produces but for the surprising and consistent way in which he innovates. Combining the use of ancestral techniques, such as tanning, or vinification methods such as the fermentation of Alvarinho in oak casks, it asserts itself in Portugal and abroad with an original project and its own identity.
Alvarinho de Monção and Melgaço white wine. The vines are over 14 years old and have low production with high levels of acidity and good maturation. It is an old-fashioned wine made with tanning, with more color and more tannins. It intends to fully exploit the potential of the variety.
This tanning makes skin maceration followed by fermentation with the skins for a few hours. Fermentation ends in used 400 liter barrels. In the same barrels, it undergoes batonnage for 9 months and then aged for 12 months in bottle.
