The Crasto Altitude 430 wine is the result of research work carried out by the viticulture and oenology teams at Quinta do Crasto, aiming to explore the potential of the many indigenous grape varieties in the Douro region.
The differentiating characteristics of the Crasto Altitude 430 wine are, first of all, the grape varieties used – Tinta Francisca (70%) and Touriga Nacional (30%) – Portuguese varieties, typical of the Douro, which make up the final blend that Quinta do Crasto considers that satisfies this wine profile. The Tinta Francisca variety, for being a variety that, at altitude, has always presented good freshness and a very interesting aromatic component, producing a wine with a more open color, but with an excellent structure. The Touriga Nacional variety, because it is a very expressive variety and which, also at altitude, has great acidity, great natural freshness and, aromatically, it has fresher red fruit aromas and not a fruit as dense as is sometimes normal in Touriga Nacional grapes of lower quotas. The vinification of Crasto Altitude 430 wine is also differentiating, following a different process than usual in the production of the remaining range of wines at Quinta do Crasto.
Crasto Altitude 430 wine has a low alcohol content, typical of an altitude zone (altitude of 430 meters) and a northern exposure to the sun, demonstrating all the freshness and elegance of the Tinta Francisca and Touriga Nacional grape varieties when planted in these conditions. Opening a new chapter in the history of Quinta do Crasto, the Crasto Altitude 430 wine shows the ability to produce wines in the Douro region with this differentiating profile.
