Quinta das Carvalhas, one of the most emblematic farms in the Alto Douro, is endowed with enormous beauty. The property occupies a predominant position on the slope of the left bank of the river Douro, facing Pinhão. It covers the entire hill overlooking the river, extending to the ridge line and occupying part of the upper slope of the right bank of the Torto river.
Written references to Quinta das Carvalhas date back to 1759, and a good part of its vineyards – made up of old vines reaching the respectable age of 100 years – represent one of the richest and most varied collections of old Douro varieties.
Carvalhas is the ex-libris of Real Companhia Velha wines. The result is a great wine that not only expresses the uniqueness of the farm and the exposure of the vineyards to the north, but also tells a little about the history of the Douro due to the enormous diversity of varieties present in the plots of old vines. Carvalhas Tinto extracts from these vines the concentration and depth, and from the sun exposure, the freshness and balance. A wine with enormous potential for aging in the bottle for decades to come.
