The Benriach distillery sits on the site of the former Riach farm in northern Speyside, drawing its water source from the mineral-rich underground aquifer that lies deep within the distillery.
During milling - the process that turns barley starch into fermentable sugar - they use four batches of our mineral-rich water instead of the usual three. This takes longer, but allows you to get the most sweetness out of the barley. We call this "4 pure water". This is what sets Benriach apart!
Each step of the whiskey making process is uniquely designed to deliver a rich, multi-layered single malt with a personality that sets them apart. Originating from all over the world and brought back to Speyside, the kegs allow Master Blender Rachel Barrie to create flavor possibilities like no other. The Benriach 12 makes us age in three types of casks, sherry, bourbon and port wine.
